Between Seven Mountains

The name Bergen is derived from the word Bjørgvin, which translates as "field below mountain," and Bergen is nicknamed "the city between seven mountains.”

Bergen is a true combination of nature and culture. In only eight minutes the Fløibanen funicular will whisk you from the heart of the city centre to the top of Mount Fløyen. All the other mountains around Bergen are easily accessible by foot. Ulriken is the highest of these with its 642 m, and can also be reached by cable car.

Mount Ulriken (642 m)
Mount Rundemane (568 m)
Mount Løvstakken (477 m)
Mount Sandviken (417 m)
Mount Fløyen (400 m)
Mount Damsgård (317 m)

Vidden
Vidden, the plateau between Mount Ulriken and Mount Fløyen, is perhaps the most popular site for day trips within the city mountains surrounding Bergen.
