A plethora of companies were on hand to meet students who attended this year’s Careers Day in Grieghallen.
For the third year in a row, the student organisation Springbrettet, was responsible for planning and coordinating the day. With Springbrettet in the driving seat, Careers Day has gone from strength to strength, and last year around 4500 students attended the event.
Leader for Springbrettet, Marit Asheim | - All the students who work for Springbrettet, do so on a voluntary basis, explains Marit Asheim the Leader for Springbrettet
- Careers Day has a board of eight people who start work in November to plan Careers Day. To make sure everything goes smoothly today, we are a team of between 45 – 50 students.
The careful planning ensured the success of this year’s event. With 75 companies, seven student organisations, and a number of humanitarian organisations on stands, in addition to a program with speed presentations, a motivational seminar and an evening arrangement, there was something for everyone.
The name ‘Ready to Fight’ was also carefully chosen.
- The job market has changed as a result of the financial crisis. It is not impossible to get a job, but you have to fight for one more now than you would have had to a couple of years ago, says Marit.
A beneficial day Trond Holvik and Øyvind André Drabløs have just graduated from Bergen University College as Electro Engineers, and are currently looking for employment. They made the trip to Grieghallen for Careers Day.
- This is an excellent initiative, and I have had the opportunity to meet a number of different companies, says Trond.
- As expected, there are a number of companies which are not hiring at the moment due to the financial situation, but we have been able to talk to individuals responsible for recruitment in many different companies, concurred Øyvind.
