Last weekend excited students boarded Statsraad Lehmkuhl from the quayside at Bryggen, to set sail in the fjords and skerries outside of Bergen.

The trip started cloudy in Bergen, but it soon
cleared. |
For the first time Study Bergen arranged a trip with Statsraad Lehmhul for the students of Bergen. The trip proved to be extremely popular, particularly for the international students.
- Today we will be sailing with almost 350 students from more than 50 different countries, says the manager of Study Bergen Michelle Ingrid Greene, and the organiser of the trip.
For many of the international students with us today, this will be the end of their exchange semester here in Bergen, explains Greene. The semester is soon over and most of them will be heading home soon.
Fantastic ship
We met some of the students who will shortly be packing their suitcases up on deck.
- On Friday there was a leaving party for the international students at Fantoft, says Roland Roed. He is an exchange student and has been studying physics at the University of Bergen this semester. Roed has not quite recovered from the party the night before, but is glad to be on the trip with the

pride of Bergen:
- There is no way I would miss the chance to experience a trip like this one. The ship is fantastic and so is the area we are sailing in!
Anja Kozinskov agrees. She changed her flight back to Poland, just so she could participate on the trip.
- When I heard about the trip I knew that this was something that I couldn’t miss. So now I will be staying here a few more days, she says.
From Beffen to Statsraaden
During the 7 hour long voyage, the students got the chance to test their knowledge in a quiz with topics from everything from current affairs, the Eurovision Song Contest, to politics and of course questions about the ship itself.
Merethe Soltvedt, a musician from Askøy with a record under her belt, entertained the students. She performed her own songs on her guitar.

- I haven’t been on Statraaden since I was a little girl! Sayss Soltvedt, who is obviously pleased to be playing on board. She charmed the students with her melodious tones and adds with a smile:
- After today’s concert I have now played on Bergen’s smallest and largest vessels – I played Beffen in the winter a few years ago and now Statsraaden!
