8.mai: Experience the Fairy tale island of Lysøen and the museum of violinist Ole Bull.

8.MAI: The museum at Lysøen island was the home of the violinist and composer Ole Bull (1810-1880), and was built between 1872-1873. It is often referred to as Ole Bull`s "fairy tale castle" because it is architecturally unique in Norwegian architectural history. The villa is inspired by numerous architectural styles from the countries Bull visited, including the Swiss chalet style and Moorish architecture, and a tower formed as an onion dome, common in Russian churcharchitecture.

The idyllic island also has romantic paths, ponds and gazebos made by planting exotic trees and bushes in the native pine forest. On the trip you will get a short introduction to Ole Bull, the house and landscape on the island.

Practical information:

The trip starts from Muséplass and goes via Mount Fana to the Buena quay, where the group will be transported by boat to the Island.

On the Island, there will be a presentation about Ole Bull’s life and the villa which he built on Lysøen. After the presentation you can walk around the house, take photos and appreciate the many details and beautiful scenery.

In the cafe a light lunch will be served including tea/coffee and a waffle (we recommend you also take a packed lunch with you). After lunch you can explore the island on your own.

If you are late for the charted departure of the boat from the island, you will have to make your own way back to Bergen.
